We've set up a Christmas tree workshop here at Simblesse Oblige!!

This little christmas tree will sit on tables and counters as well as floors. Download the zip and choose your blank Christmas tree, then decorate it over the 4 stages. The first stage will most likely be undecorated, the 2nd and 3rd stages will show the tree being partially decorated and the 4th stage will be the completed tree.

Those of you who came to the pumpkin carving party for Halloween will remember how you ended up with your own carved pumpkin. This time you will have made a little decorative Christmas tree. Upload your new object to share with others here. In the game your sim can select which stage to show.

All completed trees will then go into making a "trim the Christmas tree" skill object which will have your sim "decorating" the tree. This will be released closer to Christmas. The tree kit will boost creativity skill.

Doesn't that sound fun?! There are 10 trees to choose from - evergreen, or snowy - with a tree skirt, or on a stand. You can make as many trees as you like.

Tips for novices:

Decorating ideas: Paint different coloured balls on the tree, strings of tinsel, recolour the star, the skirt or stand. Look in our Christmas clutterbox for little objects to turn into tree ornaments. http://simblesseoblige.com/viewtopic.php?t=3333

All sorts of clutter would work if resized for eg, some bits of spooky or harvest clutter may be suitable. Saturating the snowy tree gives specks of intense pink and yellow which could be a pretty effect on the leaf tips. Remember: if you decide to go outside the edges of the tree with your decorations you will have to alter the A and Z sprites.

The example below was done this way:
The blank tree was pasted into a new working file. The tinsel and balls were drawn on separate layers.

The balls were just blobs of colour, but the underneath of each was shaded with a darker colour and a spot of highlight (white) added which made them look rounded. The edges of each ball were smudged a little. Play with Hue and Saturation to change the colour and intensity.

The tinsel was freehand drawn lines followed by applying the effect Add Noise which gave it a speckled look. Playing with the layer properties "inner glow" and "outer glow" gave a glowing effect on the tinsel and selected balls.

However this outer glow effect produces a halo which means it's easy to get semi-transparent pixels outside the base tree outline. Merge the layers (not the background though) and paste the tree back into the P sprite bmp. Position it over the original blank image, select the yellow background of the original tree layer, then click on the new tree layer and erase around the edges. This will delete those semi-transparent pixels and give you a clean outline. Don't forget to undo the merge layer command in your working file so you can then do the partially decorated stages.

If you have any questions about creating these trees please post them, we are here to help!

Ess, your tree is beautiful! I love how you did the sparkles on the tree. I'm learning stuff just by seeing what others come up with!

Yes, Patty, you have to export the sprites with Tmog and then change them with your graphics program and import the changes. Madoria has a great tutorial you can follow.

Madoria, when I woke up in the kiddle of the night and wondered if I'd have time to try thus challenge, the tree I imagined looked almost exactly like yours, though my graphics skills aren't up to the level of yours. no

I love everyone's tree - I'm really looking forward to the tree trimming kit!

Madoria - the pink looks very pretty against the snowy tree!
Crumbs, congratulations on your first recolour! I love it - the bows really make it :)
Kim, your's is also lovely - I like the gold dangly bits.

For such a small object - which means only a small space to work with, everyone's tree looks gorgeous and is different. thumbsup
